The ultimate Greek party island, you'll be anything but bored on Mykonos.
A long-time favourite holiday destination for celebrities, nudists and gays, the fact that Mykonos is the most expensive island in the Cyclades doesn't seem to deter the ever-increasing stream of budget backpackers.
Mykonos's arid, rugged interior is nothing to write home about, but you'll be too enamored with its traditional Greek charm, sandy beaches and see-and-be-seen nightlife to bother venturing more than a few metres from the turquoise Aegean Sea.

Well-oiled, posturing sun worshippers strut like peacocks along Mykonos's fine selection of golden-sand beaches, of which Paradise and Super Paradise are the most glamorous. And while you'll have a hard time finding a secluded beach (or indeed a square of sand to lay your beach towel) anywhere on the island in high season, you'll rarely have far to stumble to the nearest hotel, throbbing beachfront bar or seaside taverna.
Mykonos's capital, Mykonos Town (also known as Hora), is an unspoilt gem - a collection of whitewashed buildings, art galleries, boutiques, quaint churches and hilltop windmills nestled in a tangle of narrow alleyways. The town's Little Venice area holds particular charm, with its buildings teetering right on the water's edge where they receive a gentle lashing from the sighing ocean. Kick back in one of the swanky waterfront bars or seafood restaurants and enjoy the dazzling sunset.
