Toulouse is known as la ville rose (the pink city).

Toulouse is a vibrant city in the southwest of France and is the capital of the Midi Pyrenees region.

The city is situated on the banks of the Midi canal and Garonne river. Toulouse has a lively atmosphere, thanks largely to its high student population.

Known affectionately as la ville rose (the pink city) due to its striking pink-brick buildings as well as its liberal politics, Toulouse has many wonderful attractions. A popular spot for locals and travellers alike is the busy, pedestrianized place du Capitole, Toulouse's main square which is dominated by the Capitole building, the seat of local government. Other notable sites include the newly-restored Theatre du Capitole, the 14th century Basilique Saint Sernin and Les Abattoirs, a former abattoir converted into a modern art museum.

Toulouse is a centre for the high-tech and aerospace industries. A short distance from Toulouse is the Cite de l'Espace, a celebration of the city's role in the space programme, with exhibits, a planetarium and a cinema.

Toulouse is serviced by the Toulouse-Blagnac international airport.
