Rishikesh Travel Guide - All About Rishikesh, India

Rishikesh is something of a spiritual Disneyland and a welcome antidote to India's big cities.

Ashrams line the banks of the Ganges as it wends its way through a spectacular valley backed by mountains that dwarf two gargantuan, 14-storey temples.

Approximately five hours train ride north of Delhi, Rishikesh is a yoga-loving haven for Western hippies on a spiritual quest.

Even for the unconverted or uncoordinated, simply being in Rishikesh is meditative, and you can hardly blame travellers for not wanting to leave. This is, after all, where The Beatles conjured up much of their White Album.

For those more physically than spiritually adventurous, white-water rafting on the Ganges makes for a heady, if somewhat sacrilegious experience.
