An Adean Condor soars on a thermal in the Colca Canyon

Colca Canyon is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States, however its walls are not as steep.

You can take a trip down into the valley where villagers still farm the Inca terraces and have maintained their colourful ancestral way of life.

The canyon is also home to the majestic Andean Condor which has a wingspan of between 2.5 and 3.5 metres and lives as long as humans. You can often get a good look at one of these awesome birds soaring on thermals in the canyon from popular tourist lookout Cruz del Condor, 1,200 metres above the canyon floor. The best time to see the condor is early morning or late afternoon when they're out hunting.
