Despite the high-profile 2002 Winter Olympics, Salt Lake City remains a bit of an unsung destination but really offers a major international gateway to rival Denver.

The city's just a day's drive from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and nestled at the base of the Wasatch Mountains which puts world-class skiing, hiking and biking enviably close to downtown, yet which draw little in the way of crowds.
