Antigua is one of the most stunning destinations in the Caribbean.

With its tropical climate, laid-back beach lifestyle and friendly locals, Antigua never fails to charm.

Along with neighbouring Barbuda, Antigua is located in the Leeward Islands. Barbuda is located a little over 30 miles north of Antigua and has several small, exclusive resorts. However, Antigua is the more diverse (and reasonably priced) destination. It is the population center and the largest English-speaking island in the Leewards.

Despite its size (just 13 miles across) Antigua has numerous attractions. There are 365 white sand beaches on the island (one for every day of the year) nestled among its many coves and bays. The beaches are generally uncrowded, making them perfect for the ultimate beach vacation.

For a more adventurous holiday, explore Boggy Peak, the highest point on Antigua. It is located on the western side of the island which boasts many opportunities for hiking and exploring. All over the island, sailing, diving and hiking are popular.

European explorers first settled Antigua in the late 17th century and developed a sugar cane industry. The population of the island grew quickly, primarily due to the importation of African slaves to work in the cane fields. When slavery was abolished in 1834, Antigua was the only Caribbean island that immediately freed its slaves. This celebrated on Antigua every year during the Carnival festivities. By the late 18th century, the island was home to expansive British naval facilities, many which are still in use around the island.

Most people arrive in Antigua by air, landing at VC Bird International Airport in Saint John's, Antigua. From there you can catch an easy air transfer to Barbuda.

English is the official language. Many businesses accept US currency although the official currency is the East Caribbean dollar.
